Map of Battle from a series of surveys of the Battle Abbey estate by Richard Budgen c 1724. A perspective view of the abbey as it was during the 18th century is inset. The map illustrates how the town grew up around the abbey. It may have originally housed the construction workers but then remained to service the monks.
