Teaching Actions with Archives of Seine-Maritime

The educational service of Departmental archives of Seine-Maritime welcomes students and their teachers for working sessions around original documents.

These materials help arousing curiosity for history, while becoming familiar with the methods of archivists .

As part of the exhibition Traverser la Manche : 1000 ans de relations anglo-normandes, the educational service offered the following activities :

– A workshop for students based on original English and French documents, on the theme : ” English influence in Seine-Maritime from the 18th to the 20th century.”

> Laure d’Herbouville’s English correspondence, late 18th c. (138 J 48)

            > Recruiting an English teacher for the Royal college of Rouen (1 T 1658)

> College of Normandy, based on the British Harrow School, c.1900 (136 J 1 / 12)

– A free visit of the exhibition for classes, which were provided the supporting educational booklets (see page 1, page 2 and page 3 of the booklet).

As many documents of the exhibition and workshop are in English, euro-English students in schools and colleges were an ideal audience for this action :

> 6 schools of the Department, including 8 Euro classes = beyond 200 students, visited the exhibition following the educational trail prepared by in-house teachers.

Thanks to the “Online Resources” featured on this portal, where archival documents in English and French are available, teachers may consider class or home works.
