Grant by Henry I to Battle Abbey, which was founded after the Battle of Hastings by his father, William the Conqueror.  The deed grants the abbot the right to hear all pleas against his tenants in his own court. If the plea cannot be decided in the abbot's court, it is to be transferred to the royal court.

The deed is dated at Wartling (Wercling) East Sussex, on 24 June. Although no year is given it is estimated to be 1101. The witnesses are Robert, Bishop of Lincoln, William the chaplain, Eudo Dapifer. The remnant of the Great Seal of Henry I is attached on brown wax, showing the king enthroned.
